Patrick Cargill 1938.
The son of an Indian Army major, Edward Sydney Patrick Cargill was born in Bexhill- on-Sea on 3rd June 1918. His younger brother was keen to follow in his father’s footsteps but, when he was killed in a boating accident in India, young Patrick decided to ‘do the right thing’. Educated at Haileybury College, he was commissioned from Sandhurst into the Indian Army in 1938. However, he resigned his commission the
