The members of the quintet acted as mentors to those in the BDF Band, providing one-to-one sessions that they believed would enhance the level of musicianship of their mentee. They also delivered group interactive sessions which were enjoyed by all.
Whilst the main effort of the deployment was to mentor the PDF Band in prep- aration for their Remembrance event on Sunday 12th of November, the team also performed in a Remembrance service on Friday 10th of November at Price Barracks. The evening concluded with a quintet engagement for The British High Commission Belmopan.
Once the team completed their musical duties, they were able to take the oppor- tunity to swim with sharks and sting rays in the Caribbean Sea and visit a Mayan temple. The team believed this was the perfect way to end their time in Belize.
SUMMARY
As we approached the final few months of the year, The Band and Bugles of the Rifles had some exciting events approaching. In November, The Bugle Platoon took centre stage across the globe in Columbia; Somalia, Pakistan, Qatar and Prague, participating in various Acts of Remembrance. In particular, The Rifles Bugle Major, CSjt Keely, performed the last post at a Premier League football match at Old Trafford Stadium in Manchester in front of 70,000 people. The Band and Bugles also provided musical support to a state visit from the President of the Republic of Korea, Yoon Suk Yeol. In December, we had numerous events in London, carolling at Great Ormond Street Hospital, Clarence House and Hannover Square, which definitely got us all in the Christmas spirit! The Band and Bugles have had a very successful year, and we are eager to see what awaits us in 2024. From The Band and Bugles of the Rifles, we hope you had a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New year.
