We enjoyed a rather windy Badajoz Day 2016 at Nottingham Castle. Long time member, 90 year old Frankie Leonardi, said that he was most honoured to be asked
to raise the red jacket. John Cotterill then gave the public a most interesting
talk on the history of the 45th of Foot
(1st Nottinghamshire Regiment) at the battle of Badajoz.

It has been another busy year for Worcester Branch starting in January with the presentation to branch member Eric Tipping of
the Ordre National de la Légion d’Honneur and the Branch Annual Dinner in March. Guests included three members of 2nd Bn The Mercian Regiment, WO1 (RSM) Jason Rollins, C/Sgt Sean Leach and Sgt Rich Joynes and the RSM spoke about The Mercian Regiment and Association membership. This was followed by presentations
of a framed print of Tom Turrall VC to RSM Rollins and he in turned presented a framed print of the ‘Family Tree’ and lineage of The Mercian Regiment to the Branch President. This was followed by
two surprise presentations of Merit Awards to two hard working members of Worcester Branch, Secretary Maurice Smith and Deputy Chairman Nigel Fish. A Curry Night hosted by RSM Rollins was
held in April at Dale Barracks, Chester; four Members of the Branch attended and met members of the other Regimental Associations and many new friendships were made. Branch Secretary, Maurice Smith, has been very busy organising and officiating at parades and services at the Worcestershire Regimental Stone in Gheluvelt Park, Worcester. These include the remembrance of every VC won by a Worcestershire Regiment Soldier during WW1. In addition to these
