by branch funds, as are our other social events. If you wish to join the SRA Lichfield branch please visit our website www. LichfieldStaffords.co.uk alternatively if
you are local just pop along to one of our meetings on the first Sunday of each month 11.00hrs at the Lichfield Social Club.
Our third black tie dinner dance went very well with a lot of new faces in attendance. Our main charity event for 2016 was a gun pull and stretcher carry, we initially set this challenge up as a joint branch event but sadly due to other branches commitments it was only supported by Lichfield and
Wolverhampton branches. The event consisted of pulling a CONBAT anti tank gun and our ladies carrying the stretcher, starting at the Staffords Memorial in the NMA Alrewas, the 7 mile route through country lanes terminated at the Staffords Regimental Museum at DMS Whittington. As 2016 comes to a close we are already starting to plan our 2017 calendar and hope to have some very interesting events in place for our members.
As always our support to the Mercian Regiment and the serving soldier is second to none and we are proud to be associated
with such a formidable regiment, now that the regiment is based back in UK we look forward to even more interaction not only with the three battalions but also with the other antecedent†regimental associations.
Sgt Watchman V – wins Westminster Pet of the year 2016 in the public vote
Sgt Watchman V has enjoyed a very successful 2016. He has attended many events through the region and has met Royalty twice during the year at the opening of the Memorial Garden at the Staffordshire Regiment Museum and at Fields of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey. Sgt Watchman has also taken part in the DMS Whittington Freedom Parade in September but his crowing moment is being chosen by public vote as the Westminster Pet of the Year 2016. Both he and WO Greg Hedges, his handler remain great ambassadors for the Staffordshire Regimental Association and are as popular as ever within the County of Staffordshire and indeed now nationally. Well done Sgt Watchman.
