                                  Members in deep conversation at the autumn ‘Picnic’ at the NMRA Alrewas
Members of the CRA, MVRA and WFRA at the 2 Mercian Curry Evening with The RSM of 2 Mercian
Legion standard and WO2 Graham Bird with the Mercian Volunteers Regimental Association standard. The Kidderminster Branch also joined with the Worcester Branch of the WFRA Association and the Somme Commemoration at Gheluvelt
Park, Worcester. Richard Bates, Chairman of the Rugeley Branch took part in the Rugeley Commemoration of the Battle of the Somme. Peter Marsh [Secretary of Stockport branch] attended the Somme Commemoration held at Heaton Park Manchester together with Stuart Mc Donald and their families.
Grove with its memorial stone and oak trees will act as the focus for this event. All MVRA members and their families and friends are obviously invited and a special welcome is extended to all serving and past members of the Mercian Regiment along with all members from the antecedent Regimental Associations of the Cheshires, Staffords, and Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters with their standards. The Tenbury Town Band will provide the music for the service to be led by Ian Strongman an ex Mercian Volunteers officer. There is a ‘bring your own picnic’ afterwards with musical entertainment provided by the band.
Stockport Branch
March 2016 saw Stockport branch members attending one of their two Shotgun Shooting events. It was held at Doveridge Clay Sports Club near Uttoxeter, one of the country’s finest clay shooting grounds Following a full English breakfast served on site we went on to shoot at several different types of targets. Ably coached by Paul Hancock a BASC coach and champion shot, our ability to hit the clays went from strength to strength. Most of those who attended the day had their own guns and it was an ideal opportunity
to see who still retain some of their old shooting skills. The day was won by Pete Galley (AKA Combat Chef) with a score card of 44 out of 50. The MVRA fishing club recently attended a fishing trip on the River Dean in the heart of Cheshire. While the

Remembering the ‘Somme’
The Walsall and Bloxwich Branches of the Staffordshire Regiment Association and the Mercian Volunteers Regimental Association held a whistle blowing ceremony for the Somme Act of Remembrance on Friday morning 1st July, 2016 at 0729hrs to

river was fast flowing and swollen we were rewarded by a large bag of Rainbow Trout. We are looking forward to the next day out and possibly a charity match to raise money for the MVRA and other good causes.

  On Friday 22 April 2016, 18 members from the Stockport Branches of the
CRA and MVRA attended 2 MERCIAN Curry evening at The Dale Chester. We were hosted by the RSM, WO’s and SNCO’s of 2 MERCIAN. RSM Rollins from 2 MERCIAN spoke to all the guests who attended (about 60 in total) of the need for the Associations to support the Mercian
Branches we express our sincere thanks to RSM Jason Rollins and his mess for hosting the event and are looking forward to the next one.
In April 2016, 22 members from the Stockport Branch of the MVRA attended the now annual WO2 Ken Ward Curry evening. Ken left the branch money in his will specifically for a curry evening and
