Sgt William Albert GOULD
23951388 Sgt William Albert GOULD of Bournville Birmingham died on 5 July 2016 aged 69. Bill enlisted into The Worcestershire Regiment in 1963 and remained with it when it amalgamated in 1970 to become 1 WFR. He left
the Regiment in 1979.
CSgt (CQMS) Albert William Everitt GROCOCK
4987104 CSgt (CQMS) Albert William Everitt GROCOCK of Newark, Nottinghamshire died on 14 April 2016 aged 93. Albert enlisted in 1942 into 1st Bn The Sherwood Foresters before being posted to the 2nd Bn and served with it in Anzio, Palestine, Egypt, Syria, Lebanon and Jordan. In 1947 he was posted to the Depot, Derby before being attached to 17 PTC in Leicester. He left the Army in 1949. Albert was a long time member and staunch supporter of Newark WFRA.
Pte Anthony George HAIL
23527377 Pte Anthony George HAIL
died on 12th December 2015. George enlisted into The Worcestershire Regiment on 20 August 1957 seeing service in
the Caribbean, after discharge from the Regiment on the 19 August 1960 he enlisted into the Reserves until 1964. After military service George became a jeweller in Birmingham and later went on to work in engineering at Morganites of Worcester for 35 years.
Pte Anthony HALL
23706756 Pte Anthony HALL of Chesterfield died on 30 April 2016 aged 75. Anthony enlisted into C Coy, The Sherwood Foresters in February 1959 and served in Malaya and Northern Ireland before his discharge in September
1963. In civilian life he worked as a miner.
Pte Rex HANSON
23743861 Pte Rex HANSON of Jacksdale, Notts died on 8 February 2017 aged
76. Rex enlisted into the 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters in December 1959 and served with it in Malaya, NI, Cyprus and Germany. He left the Army in 1968.
Sgt Colin HARRISON
14901280 Sgt Colin HARRISON of Long Eaton, Derbyshire died on 11 February 2017 aged 90. Colin enlisted into the 2nd Bn The Sherwood Foresters in December 1944 and served with it in Egypt, Palestine and Trans-
Jordan. He was wounded by shrapnel from a land-mine in Palestine in April 1947 and after having spent time in Bir Yaacov Military Hospital was discharged in March 1948. He held the War medal , Palestine medal with clasp and the Defence medal. Colin was an active member of the RBL Long Eaton for 68 years
Sgt Harry HARRISON CBE
5258274 Sgt Harry HARRISON CBE of Dudley died on 12 March 2016. Born on
1 March 1920 in Dudley, Harry enlisted
in June 1940 with C Coy in the 11th. He served in NW Europe with 1st Bn and was MID and awarded the War Medal 39/45, Defence Medal (NEW), France & Germany Star and 1939/45 Star. Roy was discharged in June 1946 and later awarded the CBE for his work in engineering. Roy was President of the Dudley Branch WFRA
Sgt Kenneth ‘Arra’ HARRISON
23245179 Sgt Kenneth ‘Arra’ Harrison of Long Eaton died on 20 March 2016 aged 78. Kenneth enlisted into The Sherwood Foresters in July 1955 where he was awarded Best Recruit at his pasing out parade earning him the rank of
LCpl. He was discharged in June 1958 but later assisted with the Long Eaton ACF and joined G (HSF) Coy 3 WFR in 1987 until1991 and during his military service served in the UK, Germany and Gibralter.
Pte Lawrence ‘Lol’ Raymond HEARNE
23553000 Pte Lawrence ‘Lol’ Raymond HEARNE of Coventry died on 27 February 2016. Lol was called up for National Service in 1958 and posted to 1st Bn The Sherwood Foresters where he served in the Band. He left the Bn in 1960 whilst serving in Malaya. Lol was a staunch member of Coventry Branch WFRA.
Sgt Raymond John HENSHAW
23907982 Sgt Raymond John HENSHAW of Nottingham died on 25 March 2016 aged 71. Ray enlisted into the 1st BnThe Sherwood Foresters and remained with
it on amalgamation to the WFR. He left in 1971 but re-enlisted shortly thereafter and served until 1988.
Maj Michael George Anthony HENTON
481655 Maj Michael George Anthony HENTON of Newton Tony, Salisbury died
on Sunday 29 January 2017 aged 72. Mike was commissioned into The Sherwood Foresters in 1966 and became Recce Pl Comd in BAOR. He continued to serve with The Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regiment after amalgamation. In July 1970 he was posted as an Assistant Instructor at Netheravon Guided Weapons Wing before being attached to 1st Bn The Staffordshire Regiment in August 1972 as a Coy 2IC and then Adjutant in UK and BAOR. In 1975 he was appointed OC Trg Coy at the Depot, Lichfield before taking up the post of Major GSO3 in Brunei in 1977. This was followed by appointments as Major, Depot Prince of Wales Div, Major SO2 G2 MIO(A) SMIU Hong Kong, Major 11 UDR, Major SO2 Dis (CTS) DI, Major Sennelager Trg Area BAOR and as Major SO2 G3 Trg (Cadets) at Bulford from where he left the Army in 1990.
Pte Ronald Herbert HICKMAN
14375398 Pte Ronald Herbert HICKMAN of Witney, Oxford died on 3 March 2016 aged 94. Ron joined the 2nd/5th Bn The Sherwood Foresters at Bizerta, Italy in August 1943 and served in B Coy. He was wounded at Volturno and evacuated to North Africa. He was then transferred to the Dorset Regiment in May 1946. He was a founder member of the Oxfordshire Branch of the Italy Star Association.
Pte Reginald Ernest HILL
22375049 Pte Reginald Ernest HILL passed away in hospital on Saturday 8 October 2016. Reginald enlisted into the Worcestershire Regiment as a National Service Soldier in 1950 and saw service
in Malaya with C Company, 1st Bn and
was discharged in 1952. In civilian life Reg worked at Metal Box, Worcester for over 30 years.
Sgt Cliff HOUSLEY
23472786 Sgt Cliff HOUSLEY of Sawley, Derbyshire died on 5 March aged 76. Born in Daybrook, Nottingham, in December 1939, to Mr Eric and Mrs Florence May Housley (nee Story), Cliff enlisted into the Army in May 1958. He
began his military career as a boy soldier in Plymouth until he attained the age of man’s service and was posted to Derby Depot in late 1957. In February 1958, he joined the 1st Bn The Sherwood Foresters serving in Malaya, Canada, Libya, Germany, Northern Ireland and UK before leaving in 1969 when the Sherwood Foresters amalgamated with the Worcestershire Regiment to form The Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regiment (WFR). He held the GSM clasp Malaya, UN Cyprus Medal and Pingat Jasa Medal. After leaving the Army, Cliff joined Nottinghamshire Constabulary before becoming a Director of Carter’s Soft
Drinks Company. In 1996 he was appointed
