473034 Major Desmond F PAGE TD of Market Rasen, Lincolnshire died on 2 March 2016 aged 81. Desmond joined the 5th/8th Bn The Sherwood Foresters in 1961 serving with it in Recce Platoon at Mansfield and then 2IC
C Coy at Derby. In 1971 he was appointed as OC C Coy 3 WFR. He then went on to serve with the Royal Anglian TA as OC Recruit Reception at Bury St Edmunds.
A/Capt Michael Albert PALMER
14494033 A/Capt Michael Albert PALMER of Mapperley, Nottingham died on 11 March aged 89. Michael transferred from the General Service Corps to the Sherwood Foresters on 26 August 1943 serving in
the UK, Germany and the Far East. On discharge on 20 January 1948 he took
a commission joining the TA RA Cadet Force, 1st Notts Cadet Bn, The Sherwood Foresters serving from 16 February 1948 until 8 August 1958. In civilian life he worked in the transport and haulage business.
Lt RP PALMER
Lt RP PALMER of Glastonbury died on 13 November 2016. He was commissioned in The Worcestershire Regiment in 1960 and served in the 1st Bn until 1963 in Worcester, on Hurricane Hattie in British Honduras and in Minden. He was a popular officer and a talented sportsman, representing the Bn at cricket, football, athletics and basketball.
Major William Henry PERRONS TD
3689559 Major William Henry PERRONS TD of Ashbourne, Derbyshire died on 9 December 2016 aged 97. Bill enlisted into 9th Bn The Sherwood Foresters on 31 January 1939 as a Private soldier with number 4976306 and served with A Coy in
France and Belgium with the BEF before being evacuated through Dunkirk. He was then transferred to the RAC when the 9th Bn changed its title to 112 Regiment RAC in November 1941. In June 1946 Bill was commissioned into the 2nd Bn The Sherwood Foresters and served in Palestine. On leaving the Army in 1948 he joined 5th Bn (later the 5th/8th Bn) The Sherwood Foresters and served with it until retirement in 1964.
LCpl Graham PITCHFORTH
24303208 LCpl Graham PITCHFORTH of Kidderminster died on 11 December 2015 aged 59. Graham enlisted into The WFR in August 1972 and served in Berlin, NI, Belize and BAOR until his discharge in May 1987.
Pte Brian Thomas POULTON
23548836 Pte Brian Thomas POULTON of Stourport died in early 2015. Brian enlisted into 1st Bn The Worcestershire Regiment on 24 April 1955 and was discharged on 23 March 1964. He saw service in the West Indies, British Guyana and UK.
LCpl Christopher QUARTON
2397880 LCpl Christopher QUARTON died on 29 December 2016 aged 71. Christopher served for 6 years with 1st Bn The Worcestershire Regiment in UK, Gibraltar and Cyprus.
WO2 (TQMS) Colin RAYNOR
19003519 WO2 (TQMS) Colin RAYNOR of Lincoln died on 7 August 2016 aged 88. Colin was called up as a National Serviceman into the Lincolnshire Regiment in July 1946 and transferred to 1st Bn The Sherwood Foresters in February
1947. He was discharged on completion of Service on 4 July 1948 and re-enlisted on a 5/7 engagement with The Sherwood Foresters on 5 July 1948. He completed a Guards Drill course as a Corporal in September 1948 and was a Driving Instructor 1949 – 1950 with C Coy. In December 1950 he was posted as a Sergeant PSI with the 5th Bn at Derby until 1954 when he was posted to Nottingham OTC as a PSI. In January 1956 Colin was attached to 1st Bn Royal Lincolnshire Regiment for service in Malaya returning to the 1st Bn Sherwood Foresters when it went to Malaya. In 1959 Colin was posted to the Depot at Derby as CQMS until May 1963 when he was posted as WO2 Ranges to RMCS Shrivenham. In 1966 he returned to 1st Bn The Sherwood Foresters as TQMS in Munster. He left the Regiment on 9 January 1968.
Cpl Harry Mark REAY
22994611 Cpl Harry Mark REAY of Gloucester died on 4 October 2016 aged 80. He enlisted in The Worcestershire Regiment on 5 February 1954 and after basic training at Norton Barracks served in the 1st Bn in Bulford and Iserlohn until his
discharge on 4 February 1961

23709937 Cpl Michael REEVES of Kirkby-in- Ashfield, Notts died on 27 January 2017 aged 77. Mick enlisted into 1st Bn The Sherwood Foresters in June 1959 and served with it in Malaya, UK, NI, UNFICYP and BAOR.
During his service Mick was a Bn
Heavyweight Boxer, Bisley Shot and also took part in Rugby, Basketball and Athletics. He left the Regiment in July 1968.
Sgt Frederick ROBINSON
5254169 Sgt Frederick ROBINSON of Birmingham died on 16 November 2016. Fred enlisted into the The Worcestershire Regiment on 15 January 1940 and went with it to France in 1944 landing on Gold Beach at Montfleury. He saw service throughout the Normandy Campaign; at Mouen, Mont Pincon, Berjou, Vernon and on into Belgium where he was involved in Op Market Garden. He was demobbed in May 1946. Earlier in 2016 he was awarded the Chevalier de L’Ordre de la Legion d’Honneur. Prior to his enlistment he was employed as
a Wire Goods Manufacturer and returned to this profession in Birmingham after the War, eventually becoming Factory Manager

23674329 Pte Thomas Harry SHIELDS of Sutton in Ashfield died on 15 December 2016. Thomas was a National Serviceman and served with A Coy, 1st Bn The Sherwood Foresters in Malaya.
Pte Albert SMITH
23042212 Pte Albert SMITH died on 6 August 2016 aged 79. Albert enlisted into the Worcestershire Regiment on 25 August 1954 serving in Germany and ending his service in the Cheshire Regiment in August 1957. In civilian life
Albert Worked in engineering until he retired.
Pte Bernard Lewis SMITH
19036429 Pte Bernard Lewis SMITH of Nottingham died on 21 September 2016 aged 87. Bernard was called up as a National Serviceman in November 1946 and after training was posted to The Sherwood Foresters in February 1947. In 1950 he was posted as a reinforcement to serve in Korea.

22843180 WO1 (RSM) Paul SPELMAN died on 15 January 2017. Paul enlisted into 1ST Bn The Worcestershire Regiment and continued to serve with 1 WFR after the amalgamation. He left the Regiment in April 1977.
