issues (the same as this time last year). Resettlement appears to have gone well with seven personnel requesting assistance for training course costs via their Brigade Recovery Unit, Two veterans with traumatic health issues were highlighted to us by another charity organisation (65 Degrees North), that requested us to support them in getting involved into sporting activity, which will see them cycling over the Pyrenees later this year. We have a further four soldiers informed they will be discharged from a PRU between now and April 2017 which is a 50% decrease on this time last year.
Look Forward
The demands upon The Mercian Regiment Benevolence Fund will undoubtedly continue to grow, but we have been extremely fortunate to have great fund raisers that fund the gap in our yearly expenditure.
Our sincere thanks go out to all of our Regimental Associations family members who dedicate their time, resources, hard work and effort in fund raising for our charity. Your efforts enable the charity to keep up with the demand for help from our veterans, injured soldiers and families who find themselves in hardship, need and distress.

Injured Soldiers
The Mercian Regiment still has two soldiers wounded in Afghanistan serving with a Personal Recovery Unit both are due to be discharged in 2017. A total of 18 injured soldiers have been discharged from the Army over this ten month period, this included twelve soldiers with mental health

4 MERCIAN annual donation to the Benevolent Fund
On the 22nd February Army Reservist, Sgt Paul Spilsbury of D (Dragon) Company 4 MERCIAN presented
the Company’s annual donation to the Mercian Benevolent Fund. Presented to Lt Col (Retd) Bill Temminck at RHQ, the D Company cheque totalled £875.86 and Sgt Spilsbury explained that the funds had been raised throughout the year.
“D Company has held a number of low- key fund-raising events such as all ranks quiz nights, raffles and specific social events aimed at accumulating the funds gradually over the year. This is our third year in raising money for the MBF, we had hoped to raise £850.00, and I’m delighted to say that we have realised our goal”.
As a keen Reservist, Sgt Spilsbury looks after recruiting at his Army Reserve Centre in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, “The Army Reserve is something I always wanted
to be a part of and I worked hard to join. I feel honoured to be able to present a cheque to such a worthy cause”.
