Ram Major – Corporal Phillip ‘Trish’ Thornton
Once again, 2015 has been another busy year for the Regimental Mascot. It began badly, as Derby contracted lice from his Christmas leave visit to Chatsworth. This took quite a while to rectify with numerous vet visits and ate into Derby’s busy schedule.
In late January and February, A Company, 2 MERCIAN conducted a series of parades through local towns, cities and counties such as Stockport, Chester, Nottingham, Worcester and Staffordshire. Here, Derby led the parades proudly.
During March, we said goodbye to the Ram Orderly Private Seager, who I would personally like to thank after doing a tremendous job, and wish him all the best on his return to 1 MERCIAN. We also welcomed the new Ram Orderly, Private Stuart Mclean from 1 MERCIAN who has taken to the job very well in such a short time.
March also saw Derby undertake his first pass out parade at Vimy Barracks, watching all of the new MERCIAN recruits pass out.
The remainder of the month and April was concentrated on Derby County F.C, where the Regimental Mascot now leads the players out onto the field. I must say, this is always a very proud moment for myself, Derby and the Ram Orderly.
May saw visits to Bulford for the Army
