Crich 2015
Soldiers and their families from all three Battalions of The Mercian Regiment attended the Crich Pilgrimage at The Mercian Regiment Memorial on July 5th.
Despite testing conditions during the service, spirits weren’t dampened and the Colours of all three Battalions were on parade. The event was attended by local dignitaries, cadets and the wider Regimental Family.
The pilgrimage took place from 1230 and included a service outside in the memorial grounds, as well as a reunion for all of
those of The Mercian Regiment and its antecedents.
The Crich memorial is dedicated to the soldiers of The Mercian Regiment, The Worcester and Sherwood Foresters and The Sherwood Foresters who have been killed in action since the Great War.
The tower was completed in 1923 to commemorate the 11,409 Sherwood Foresters who had died during the Great War 1914 - 1918. Since then and seven years after the end of the Second World War in 1952, a dedication to the memory of
1,520 Sherwood Foresters who had died during this war was added to the Memorial.
An additional memorial wall is present within the memorial which commemorate those who have died since 1945, including those of the Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters since 1970 and The Mercian Regiment since 2007.
The Mercian Regiment would like to thank everyone who made the pilgrimage such
a fantastic event and we look forward to seeing you all again next year.
