CATT and CAST (vehicle simulators) were a great training tool for the vehicle commanders. Lance Corporal Smith, Corporal Sutherland and their crews really started to lay down our platoon drills. Despite some occasionally over excited contact reports from Private Jones 66
on the net, the platoon really enjoyed the competitive nature of actually fighting against computers that could fight back.
BATUS was the highlight of our year. Corporal Knowles, with many years of armoured experience was an excellent addition to our starting line up as Warrior Sergeant. He really kept the drivers (Private’s Simcox, Hutcheson, Hill and Wheatley) in line, meaning that our platoon’s vehicles were kept in very good condition and only occasionally fell apart or belched out plumes of black smoke. The platoon performed really well on exercise and
after all their hard work, are now looking forward to a slightly more relaxed period of adventure training, rear operations group tasks and well deserved leave.
