Derbyshire ACF
Under our new Commandant, Col Chris Young, who took over from Col Trevor Paulucci in September 2012, the County has gone from strength to strength during the last year. The officer strength has increased to 90% of establishment and our cadet strength now stands at over 700 with the variety of opportunities available to them significantly broader.
To improve communications within the County, an internal newsletter has been launched which, with apologies to former members of 1 WFR who had one of the same name some years ago, has been called Rampages in honour of our regimental mascot.
which was held in Perth, Scotland in August.
After their first National Team training session in Perth, all 3 were selected to compete in the England B team and after all the teams had pulled against each other, the England squad proved to be so strong that both its A and B teams qualified for the final with the A team eventually winning a hard fought contest resulting in the England B Team and our 3 cadets being awarded silver medals as runners-up.

The highlight of
any cadet year is the
2-week Annual Camp
which this year took
place at Wretham Camp
on Stanford Training
Area in Norfolk during
August. This article
gives a flavour of the
activities, successes
and achievements of the cadets both during Annual Camp and throughout the rest of the year.
England Internationals
Very few people can say that they have been awarded an international ‘cap’ for representing their country at a sport, but
3 members of D Coy can. LCpl Jacob Preston and Cdt Joseph Sharratt, both
of Kingsway Detachment and LCpl Luke Varley of Phoenix Street Detachment
were selected for the England national Under 18 Tug of War squad following their outstanding performances in our County Tug of War team at the ACF National Finals in York on 6th July when they were losing finalists and silver medal winners.
Their first competition as members of the England National Tug of War Team was when they were selected for the England squad to pull against Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland in the UK Championship
ACF following a successful weekend of training and testing at Chilwell in June.
The Community Sports Leaders Award (CSLA) Level 2 was delivered at the Weekend Training Centre by instructors
from Cambridge College and covered how to run practical sports sessions as well as sports science theory.
Organised by County Sports Officer, 2Lt. Leanne Urquhart, the event was a great success. She said: “We had 27 participants on the course, a mix of senior cadets, adult instructors and officers. The instructors who delivered the course kept us engaged all the way through. They provided constructive feedback to us after our practical sessions which kept us eager to improve for the next task. Even though the course was mixed between adults and cadets it showed how everyone can adapt to their group members in order to achieve success. I can definitely say that I picked up a few ideas off the cadets.”
