Of Loughborough, Leicestershire on 26 October 2012 aged 79. He served with the 1st Battalion The Sherwood Foresters between 1952-55.
HURST Ronald Pte 23791728
Of Newark on 19
July 2011 aged 72. He served with A Coy 1st Battalion The Sherwood Foresters as a National Serviceman between 1959-61 and served in Malaya. Ron was a keen
boxer and boxed for his company. After demobilisation he took up employment with R. I. Derry and Sons of Newark as a plumbing and heating engineer for 49 years until he retired.)
JAMES Walter Arthur Pte 5253719
On 11 August 2013 aged 94. He enlisted into the 1st Battalion The Worcestershire Regiment in 1939 and served in India and Germany, he demobilised in 1945.
LANGDON George Pte 4981353
Of Bolton, Lancashire on 11 September 2012 aged 95. He enlisted in June 1940 and served with the 14th Battalion Sherwood Foresters as a transport driver until February 1944 when he
moved to the RASC as a printer of the Army Newspaper (Eighth Army News) in June 1946 he was demobilised and returned to his pre-war profession as a printer.
LAWMAN Francis Alan ‘Titch’ Sgt 4976669 and 22220840
Of Worksop, Nottinghamshire on 1January 2013 aged 92. In 1937 he joined the 8th Battalion The Sherwood Foresters and served in UK and Northern Ireland. He
deployed with the BEF to Norway in 1940. In 1941 he was transferred to the Recce Corps, which then became REME in 1942, he then trained as a fitter and served in Iraq, Palestine, Tunisia, Italy (Anzio and Salerno) and was then returned to Haifa on medical grounds. After he left the Regular Army in 1947 he rejoined the 5/8th Battalion in 1949 and was promoted to Sgt and given the number 22220840. In 1961 he was discharged having completed 24 year’s service. In civilian life he was an HGV
driver. Alan always attended the annual Crich pilgrimage and was a great comrade to all the members of Worksop branch of the WFR Association.
LAWRENCE Peter 23701751
Of Chesterfield, Derbyshire on 01 November 2012.
He enlisted into the Parachute Regiment
in March 1959 and in March 1963 transferred to the 1st Battalion The
Worcestershire Regiment and served in the West Indies, BAOR, UK and Gibraltar. He left the Army in 1970 and joined the Royal Engineers TA in Chesterfield with whom
he served until March 1971. In civilian life he was employed as a foreman, working
at Robinsons of Chesterfield. Peter was a member of the Chesterfield WFRA Branch and together he and his wife supported
the troops in Afghanistan and sent over 4,650 shoebox goody packs to British Army deployed regiments.
MILNER Peter
Of Derby on 8 August 2013. Peter completed his National Service with the Intelligence Corps and then joined C Company 3 WFR.
MITCHELL F K Maj 362109
Of Ventnor, Isle of Wight on 27 December 2012 aged 85. He joined The Sherwood Foresters on 15 February 1945 and served at Markeaton Park, Derby with 27 Training Battalion before moving to 163 OCTU, Morecombe in September 1945. On
26 January 1946 he was commissioned into The Sherwood Foresters and served with 7 ITC Lincoln before then moving to the Middle East and serving with various infantry battalions. In September 1948 he joined 8th Battalion (TA) and became 2Lt 2IC B Company in Sutton in Ashfield. In 1960 he was appointed Major commanding D Company at Triumph Road, Nottingham in 1960 and retired in 1961. On the amalgamation of the 5th and 8th Battalions between 1968-70 he returned from retirement to command the 5/8th Cadre
at Triumph Road. After retirement he ran his own company, Mitchell’s of Nottingham Holdings Ltd, Mitchell Industrial Equipment Ltd and became a director of Mitchell Farm Services Ltd. He also ran a farm in Godshill, Isle of Wight.
NASH Robert ‘Bob’ 24111391 CSgt
Of Nottingham on 27 June 2013. He enlisted in 1966 and joined 1 WORC R and served in UK, Gibraltar and Cyprus. On amalgamation he joined A Coy 1 WFR and served in Warminster, Berlin, Colchester, Belize, Hemer, Cambridge and Cyprus and also NI. He served with 1 MERCIAN (V) and D Coy 3 WFR(V) as a QPSI. He left the Army in 1989 and took up employment
with the Nottingham University as a security guard.
NURSE Stephen Sgt 24276724
Of Rheindahlen, Germany on 11 November 2012 aged 59. He enlisted into 1WFR in March 1976 and was employed as a clerk. He left the Regiment in September 1988 and in June 1989 he joined the Royal Army Ordnance Corps leaving in May 2001. He then joined NAAFI Support Services
in JHQ Rheindahlen as their Training and Assurance Manager.
PARKIN GORDON Maj
Of Worcester on 3 May 2013 aged 79. He enlisted in February 1952 and after
basic training at the Depot Lichfield he
then joined 1 Worc R in Malaya. He rose rapidly in rank to Corporal in five months and Sergeant in 18. Apart from two tours at ERE he spent all his service in the Regiment and was RSM of 1 WFR 1970-73 including the Presentation of Colours Parade in Warminster, the UN tour in Cyprus, Northern Ireland and Berlin. He spent the last year of his Regular service as RSM 3 WFR before being appointed to a TA commission before retiring in 1982. Always one of the smartest men on parade, he had an impressive parade ground presence.
PITMAN Gary Duncan WO1 23867658
Of Broadway, Worcestershire on
5 September 2013.
He enlisted into the Worcestershire Regiment in August 1961, although he had served as a volunteer with the 7th
Battalion. He joined the 1st Battalion at Norton Barracks after a period of training and then moved to Germany, he also served in Gibraltar, Libya, Bulford and Lydd until the Regiment’s amalgamation in 1970 and was then posted to 1D&D in Malta with whom he remained with for seven years, he then moved to the School of Infantry, the Depot, Crickhowell and back to the School of Infantry.
He was commissioned in 1980 into 1 WFR in Hemer where he served as the Unit Families Officer. He was then granted a QM Commission and served in Northern Ireland with the UDR and 1st Battalion before joining 2 Mercian (V) and then 4 WFR as QM. He left the Regiment in 1991 and became the NRPS QM at 22 Signal Regiment (V) Redditch, however he continued to serve with the 4th Battalion and provided the admin assistance to the Regimental ‘At Home’ Repton School and Hartlebury Castle.
PYATT Wilfred Sgt
Of Kidderminster passed on 29 October 2012. Wilfred served with F(HSF) Coy 4th Battalion WFR.
