Staffordshire Regiment Museum
By Jim Massey
We have enjoyed another interesting year, so I will not dwell on the mundane aspects, but will concentrate on the areas of interest. The big news is the Museum received The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service. This highly prestigious award was announced in the summer, so we treated our volunteers to a special day when HM Lord Lieutenant presented us with the actual award and certificate. This makes gaining accreditation again, seem rather mundane in comparison. However, much unglamorous work went into the latter and whilst policies and forward plans are not exciting to write, we are grateful to our Trustees who contributed to the work, particularly James Green.
We run two weekend events and our popular evening events, plus Discovery Days on Bank Holiday Mondays and Mondays throughout August. Our Road Show Team visited Cosford Air Show plus local events in nearby villages. We also produced a display for the Presentation of New Colours, which sat at the entrance of Worcester Warriors Stadium next to the
WFR and Cheshire Regiment displays. Great War Commemoration looms in the near future. Our Trustees took the bold decision to invest heavily on upgrading our WW1 Trench. At the time of writing JCBs are at work putting
and arranged by James Whittaker. He went to great effort to do this and we are all extremely impressed and grateful for his magnificent efforts. He sourced some unique artefacts, which included importing
in new features and
all is going well. The constructors have even developed a machine for filling sandbags, if anyone knows of any manpower strapped infantry battalion which has a need for this, we can put them in touch.
The bureaucracy involved whilst tedious, was less taxing than dealing with the banking fraternity.

from Spain, for a limited period. The bureaucracy involved whilst tedious, was less taxing than dealing with the banking fraternity.
Finally, I must thank our Museum Friends for all their work in designing the trench,
We have featured twice on BBC Midlands Television and are meeting with Staffordshire County Council to help them and our local borough councils to bring this together and make Staffordshire have a meaningful part in the nation’s efforts.
Mention must be made of the excellent exhibition on the Battle of San Sebastian (1813) which was researched, written up
walking the ground and producing a worthwhile plan. Despite many setbacks they stuck to the task and their dedication over the past eighteen months has been noted by our Trustees. We cannot let
the year pass by without thanking Dani Pritchard, our enthusiastic Curator, for all her hard work.
