                                 101 MWD SQUADRON
1THE ARMY RESERVES
01 Military Working Dog (MWD) complete Basic Training (Phase 1 training), Squadron (Reserves) was formed in consisting of a series of weekends and/or a 2015, joining four Regular Squadrons consolidated course. Basic training will teach
as part of the hybrid 1st MWD Regiment, based at St George’s Barracks in North Luffenham. The Squadron is integral to the Regiment’s capability, both during normal in-barracks working, as well as during war fighting.
The Squadron is always recruiting potential soldiers who can commit to a minimum of 19 days training per year. No previous dog handling experience is required. Potential recruits must undergo selection at an
Army Assessment Centre. This consists of
a rigorous medical assessment, as well as ability, literacy, numeracy and fitness tests. If successfully selected, you then progress to
you weapon handling and firing skills, first aid, map reading, and basic military field craft, all with plenty of physical training involved.
At the end of Basic Training, soldiers proudly participate in their ‘Pass Out Parade’ where families and friends are welcome to come along and support.
Alongside our MWD Handlers, we are
also recruiting trained Veterinary Officers (VOs). You must be a qualified veterinary surgeon (registered with the Royal College
of Veterinary Surgeons) and, if recently graduated, have completed the Veterinary Graduate Development Programme (VetGDP) before you can join. The selection process
