ATC SUNDAY
PARADE
By Flying Officer Gary Selby
On Sunday 4th February 2024 cadets and staff from across Sector 4 of the Wing gathered in Tadcaster to commemorate the 83rd anniversary of the formation by Royal Warrant of the Air Training Corps. They were led by the newly formed Sector band under the guidance of Civilian Instructor Candice Richardson.
Squadron Leader Marcus Griffiths, Sector 4 Commander, led the parade of cadets and staff
from 58 (Harrogate), 110 (City of York), 886 (City
of Ripon), 1953 (Knaresborough), 2434 (Church Fenton) and 2487 (Easingwold) Squadrons. A Church Service took place in St Mary’s Church Tadcaster where Cadet Warrant Officer Jessica Rangeley and Flight Sergeant Harrison Buckley
gave readings about the contribution and worth of young people in society and the wider world. This was followed by Squadron Leader Griffiths leading the cadets in a renewal of their Cadet Promise that all cadets make at the start of their cadet career.
Following the service, the parade reformed
to march through the streets of Tadcaster with standards flying and the band playing a variety of tunes. Friends, family and people from all over the area came to watch the parade. We were joined
on the day by Wing Commander Aaron Waters, Officer Commanding Central & East Yorkshire Wing, Councillor David Bowgett, Mayor of Tadcaster and Councillor Kirsty Poskitt, North Yorkshire County Councillor Tadcaster Division who took the salute as the parade marched past the war memorial.
Following the march past, cadets, staff and guests were invited to the Riley Smith Hall for refreshments and to celebrate a successful event.
All on parade were well turned out and represented the Sector, Wing and wider Organisation well with many members of the public, parents
and our honoured guests commenting on the professionalism of all personnel.
Thanks must go to all the staff who gave up their Sunday to help commemorate this special occasion, without whom, the event would simply not have been the success it was.
