Chairman’s Report – Councillor Craig Wheeler
Another busy start to the year and as the Council now approaches its financial year end we want to keep you updated with the Council’s financials for the coming year. In this edition of Jigsaw you will find a press release regarding the Council’s precept. As a Council it is important that we ensure we are fit for the future and ensure we can deal with any eventuality that may arise with the formation of the unitary authorities in the county.
On a lighter note I recently held a charity Quiz ‘n’ Chips event. This event was a
sell out and raised just short of £900 for Dementia UK, my charity for the year. Currently the amount raised this year for Dementia stands at £3,962.95. This is an amazing achievement that without the help of yourselves, the councillors and staff in the office would not have been possible.
During the start of the year we also undertook a substantial project to refurbish the Plaza Community Centre. The refurbishment has vastly improved the facility and what residents saw on its relaunch on February 2nd 2019 was just

the first phase. We have a 2nd phase coming with improved internet facilities, disabled toilet refurbishment and other enhancements that had to be completed separately. These will not involve the Plaza closing and will be done in a manner to cause as little disruption as possible.
Coming up I have my Mayor’s Party in the Plaza on Saturday 16th March. Tickets are now on sale and can be purchased from the Council office. This will be my last charity event as Mayor so I hope you will be able to come and support Dementia UK.
