Together, they piled the boxes up again. ‘I have a drawing for you,’ she said handing the hedgehog a piece of light brown parchment.
Sam looked at a fine drawing of a crown and a tiara. ‘It’s a before and after diagram. Firethorn did it,’ she said.
‘It’s wonderful. My drawings are nothing compared to this. Thank you. They will really help me make the new crown.’
‘Are you going to use the gems from the golden box, Sam?’ she asked.
‘Goodness me, no. They are far too precious for what we have in mind. We’re going to use coloured glass. There are plenty of pieces lying around the wildlife garden, especially on the rockery and in Emma and Lily Weston’s fairy garden. I am sure they won’t miss them.’
‘Very well, Sam. I’ll leave you to your boxes,’ said Sophia with a cheeky smile.
Sam checked the ties around the boxes before heading back home to the wildlife garden. It was a cumbersome package to carry so he was thankful as he pushed them through the little garden gate. Walking towards the bakery he waved to Alfie who was at the top of the conifers looking out across the meadow, checking for strangers. He saw Alfie smile when he heard Sadie calling him down for dinner.
Sam’s wife, Betsy, never ceased to amaze him. The bakery was more than a full-time job: it had taken over their lives. However, a tasty dinner was always ready when he and his boys, Matty and Archie arrived home. Today, the boys
