PROFESSIONAL AND CLINICAL
Surgeon General’s Commendation - WO1 N Morgan RADC
On 28 August 2015, WO1 Nikki Morgan RADC received a commendation from the Surgeon General, AM Paul Evans CB QHP RAF at DMS(Whittington) in the company of her colleagues and family, the Corps RSM and Chief Dental Of cer.
The citation for the incident that led to the nomination of a Surgeon Generals Commendation Team
Award and the contribution made by WO1
Morgan read as follows:
In the late afternoon of Thursday 16
October 2014 individuals within Defence Medical Services (Whittington) became
aware of screams coming from Nottingham Road, outside the camp perimeter. It quickly became apparent that a young civilian woman was under a sustained attack from a large aggressive dog. The dog had a rm bite on her arm and was dragging her along the ground.
Having assessed the situation, WO1 Morgan
was the rst to raise the alarm, having the
presence of mind to alert the main gate and
also calling 999 to summon the police and
ambulance services. Whilst other personnel had climbed over the perimeter fence and were fending off the animal, WO1 Morgan commandeered a passing vehicle to drive others around to the incident and render emergency medical care
to the victim. She
then proceeded to co-ordinate the emergency services and provide constant reassurance to the casualty until the ambulance team arrived.
With the immediate situation under control, but the dangerous dog still somewhere nearby, WO1 Morgan together with a colleague
proceeded to the nearby nursery just in time to prevent the children from being allowed out into harms way. She then continued on to warn the Married Quarters residents of the situation advising they stay indoors until the dog was captured.
The actions of the WO1 Morgan and the other individuals involved in this incident epitomise the sel ess commitment we espouse in our personnel. In the best traditions of the Defence Medical Services, these people put themselves in harm’s way to assist someone in need of clinical care. Without the team’s intervention; the casualty would have lost her limb and possibly her life and that of her unborn child.
Very many congratulation to WO1 Morgan for in being awarded this prestigious commendation and our best wishes as she departs the Service in early 2016 and we look forward to maintaining our
links with Nikki through our annual Past and Present events.
