Army and Royal Artillery Hunter Trials 2015
Capt Sophie Walters
On 25th October 2015 Captain Sophie Walters and Captain Amy Curtis represented the Army Medical Services at the Army and Royal Artillery Hunter Trials at Larkhill racecourse.
The conditions were challenging with heavy rain and strong winds but the AMS elded one of the biggest teams behind the King’s Troop and Household Cavalry.
Both girls competed in the Military Novice Class over nearly 30 competitors where conditions and a challenging course meant half the eld were eliminated or didn’t complete the course. Captain Walters was placed 5th on her horse Felix after jumping a clear round and Captain Curtis was placed 8th. The AMS did exceptionally well as a team in this class taking home rosettes for 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 8th.
Both girls also entered the Military Pairs Class – Captain Walters paired up with Captain Carolyn Whiting of the RAVC and Kings Troop, whilst Captain Curtis paired up with LCpl Rebecca Williams. Both horses and riders have to complete the course and jump a number of fences side-by side.
If daylight can be seen between the pairs then penalties are given. Captain Curtis and LCpl Williams were placed 10th in the pairs and Captains Walters and Whiting were 12th after taking
2 attempts to get through the water jump!
As the pictures show it was an awesome adrenaline- lled day enjoyed by all and with the AMS being one of the most successful teams of
the day!
