whilst swimming up and down the pool. The client and other members of the design team stared in disbelief, but a decision was made and we moved on to the next agenda item, dripping.
What makes RTK different? We are very approachable and I like to feel that we react to
of ready salted (with a sneaky pickled egg). Low level deception is a key part of a successful marriage.
Things people don’t know about you? I was Head Chorister at Ely Cathedral, I rowed for GB at under 23 and senior level and my father held
problems quickly and effectively. We also have a lot of years of experience: 33 of them!
Proudest moment? Professionally:
we have won the Rutland Council
George Phillips Design Award on five
occasions (four more than anyone else). Personally: my daughter at age 16 (now
31) beating me in a running race up the
300 steps to the top of Sacre Coeur in Paris, and realising that the baton was slowly passing on.
What brings you joy? Seeing my children, now all grown up, thriving and being such good fun and company and walking with my wife along the Nene between Cotterstock and Oundle Wharf, followed by a pint and a packet
the world speed record for drinking a quart (two pints) of beer.
Who inspires you? Anyone who
has a positive philosophy. Too many people adopt a “Leave it to someone else” attitude and are simply too lazy. There is a beautiful statue in the school grounds with the inscription “Here I am, send me”. That is my inspiration.
Any famous clients? Yes, but client discretion is key, of course! From Royalty, through the House of Lords, and across to an elderly couple I am looking at a bungalow extension for this afternoon. All equally lovely.
