Rifle Lesson 15
NORTH MACEDONIA STTT
A team of five deployed to North Macedonia for four weeks as a Short-Term Training Team (STTT). We were asked to deliver a training package to develop the low-level tactics and skills of Macedonian Army soldiers and JNCO’s. We also identified those who we thought displayed the leadership characteristics and suitability to attend promotional cadres. The purpose of this was to evaluate their basic infantry skills
in preparation for their rotation onto NATO readiness.
The team also took two PTI’s (Cpl Depledge & LCpl Price) who were asked to run a potential PTI cadre for five ARNM soldiers, focusing on how to create progressive and challenging PT sessions.
The training took place at Krivolak training area, an hour from the Macedonian capital, Skopje. The program consisted of a leadership module, navigational skills, C-IED, VCPs, BCD, section and platoon attack and a patrols competition. We also ran a sword lane, which was well received.

ended the deployment with a battlefield study that focused on the Salonika Front of WW1. Several antecedent regiments of The Rifles took part in the battles that were fought here, and it was fantastic to see the area in person.
