Bournemouth band stand, set in the picturesque Lower Gardens was the venue for a joint concert by the Waterloo Band & Bugles of 7 RIFLES and the Salamanca Band & Bugles of 6 RIFLES.
We were delighted to welcome members of The Bugle Branch of The Rifleman’s Association to augment our own buglers
and thankfully the April sun shone on an appreciative and enthusiastic audience. The crowd was entertained with a varied program of music ranging from works by Gustav
Holst to Phil Collins, which showcased the absolute best of the diverse capabilities of contemporary military bands.
The concert featured several solo spots which included CSjt Halsey on Trombone playing Dream of the Return, Sjt Watson on Alto Sax playing Against All Odds, as well as the Cornet section featured in Hora Staccato. Our buglers took centre stage with ‘Sir John Moore’ and the ever popular ‘High on a Hill’ as well as our traditional bugle marches.
Military bands once regularly performed on the iconic band stands of the south coast of England during the summer months delighting both holiday makers and residents alike – maintaining a public-facing posture of the army. Sadly, this has not been the case for many years now, but we hope that our

concert will mark the start of a revival of this proud tradition and that military bands will once again bring music and entertainment to the seaside resorts of England, again keeping the army and The Rifles in the public eye. Both bands enjoyed performing and hope to return next year.
