REGION OVERVIEW
At the time of writing the great summer continues, even the North and North
East have the odd day without cloud and rain. The cadets are now looking forward to their summer training packages and
a full programme of events for all the forming and antecedent associations. The Rifleman’s Association across the region continue to grow. Details of the activities are included within the regional articles.
Our organisations continue to charm local authorities and organisations and are fast becoming the go to organisations for advice on military and veteran matters.
The major community engagement activity of the year so far has been RIFLES North East. The nine events across our North East Freedom towns incorporated a celebration of HM The Queen’s
Platinum Jubilee. All the events were supported by 8 RIFLES and the Band and Bugles. In addition the Durham ACF Band and Bugles supported our weekend events.. Unfortunately for operational reasons 3 RIFLES were unable to provide the support they intended so the Sunderland Parade needed to be postponed.
In South Yorkshire the link spanning over 250 years between The Rifles, its forming and antecedent regiments, and the town
of Barnsley was marked with the unveiling of memorial stones to KOYLI (Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry), LI (Light Infantry) and RIFLES on the civic veteran’s walkway.
All the events were attended by the Regional Colonel North & Midlands Brigadier Mark Wilson and or the Deputy Colonels Colonel Neil Bellamy and Colonel
