   1 RIFLES
 FORCE
PROTECTION PLATOON
 NYATI, KENYA
In February, 6 Pl B Coy were afforded the luxury of seeing and experiencing Nanyuki in Kenya before 1 RIFLES deploy on ASKARI STORM later this year. Taking over from 4 YORKS as the Force Protection Platoon in Nyati Barracks, we were responsible for
the camp security and coordinating the medical air response for casualties. During our three month stay we were involved with 45 CASEVACs that were a mix of exercising troops, service personnel, their dependents and Kenyan locals.
With a large proportion of the platoon
new to 1 RIFLES, this tasking gave us the opportunity to integrate the new Riflemen and
make use of the impressive training facilities within Nyati. Working with the local G4S security, the platoon established themselves quickly and became a friendly, professional and recognizable group in camp.
The platoon broke down into multiples, with those not on duty getting the opportunity to attend AT packages. Many, however took the opportunity to travel slightly further afield, flying down to the coast and exploring the Indian Ocean and Mombasa.
We definitely made the most of the experience, with many looking forward to heading back in September.
