robber had a bayonet on Tina and I had to sort him out. Tina: For me it was grabbing the stolen jewellery off him as Nigel was punching him!
Most unusual request you’ve had? To put someone’s ashes into the back of a ring setting. It was very sad, but she was really happy when we managed it.
What makes Harpur’s so special? We pride ourselves on being an independent jewellers. Our stock ranges from individual makers and bespoke pieces made in our workshop. We
are like a family, with Tina’s daughter Charley learning the ropes and taking over IT, and of course Wendy (Lady Barnwell) serving in the shop. Also, when she is back in England, Nigel’s daughter Rosalind, who is also a jeweller.
Who makes you laugh? Nigel: We both love Jethro. Tina made the mistake of buying me tickets to see him shortly after an operation she had had. She was bandaged up and stitched up, and Jethro was so funny she had to leave the
theatre for fear of losing her stitches. That made me laugh even more!
Dinner out or at home? Tina: Out! Especially with lockdown happening, I realise how much I miss socialising!
...and a favourite tipple to go with it... Tina: Gin and tonic or fizz.
If money was no object, where would you visit? Nigel: Already been there. Tina: Too many places to name, but love anywhere Buddhist.
Dog, cat or iguana – who’s at home? Nigel: Parrot named Spot. Tina: Dogs – I have an 11 year old Staffie and have recently rescued a Romanian stray.
Jaffa cake or Hobnob? Jaffa cakes, there is a family story there but I won’t go into it!
Something people don’t know about you?
Nigel: I am always very serious and never muck about.
