Essex DA
We held our first Essex DA event in about 18 months at the RHS Show at Hyde Hall in October. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic has put a stop to our meetings over the past year or so, but we managed to hold a small display and information stand at the RHS Show where it was nice to catch up with some familiar faces from our DA during their visits. Thanks also to Rob Holmes from the Welsh Branch who was exhibiting at the show and helped us man the stand over the course of the weekend.
We also used the show as a way of presenting Jan Lovell with her NVS Fellowship, which Medwyn Williams kindly presented to
her just before the judging commenced – well done Jan, and thanks for all your help with the DA over the years and also as a prominent NVS judge in Essex and beyond!
By the time you’re reading this, we hope to have planned our 2022 programme of events and will have distributed this to all
of you. Fingers crossed that the pandemic doesn’t put a stop to any further meetings.

whether, door key permitting, we had our wine tasting. We will definitely have held our AGM in December. Sadly, reports are that Hampshire Potato Day at Whitchurch will not
be going ahead so we are planning
a members’ meeting for 11 January with a talk on “Sowing and Planting” by resident experts Ted Perren and David Shergold. Good timing, as we will be looking for help growing plants for The BBC Gardeners’ World Live Spring Fair at Beaulieu 29 April-1
May, as well as our normal Plant Sale a week or so later. With the Southern Championships going ahead at the New Forest Show 26-28 July, it looks like Hants DA have a very busy year ahead.
