faces and knowing that by doing a little bit we were making a difference, big or small, for someone else.
The next day we were in to the big event and the final part of our trip – the Twenty20 Triangular.
Match 1: v Seenigama
Ladies
Seenigama Ladies CC won the toss and put CS in to bat. This was a much more competitive performance by CS and were unlucky to come so close to a win and not getting it.
Match 2: v Sri Lankan
Air Force (SLAF)
CS won the toss and chose to bat. Unfortunately wickets fell at regular intervals and the team didn’t really get going. CS took a few more wickets but just could not defend such a small score. Another top display by the SLAF.
Match 3: SLAF v
Seenigama Ladies
Day two of the tournament saw Seenigama Ladies CC up against the Sri Lankan Air Force. This promised to be a tight match and to everyone’s surprise Seenigama dealt a convincing win over the SLAF.
On the last evening, presentations and awards were made to the following: Best Bowler on Tour:
Cpl Amanda ‘Beanie’ Potgieter
Best Batswoman on Tour:
Lt (RN) Hazelle ‘Buffalo’ Garton
Most Valued Player on Tour:
Cpl Edwina ‘Eddie’ Koff
Most Improved Player on Tour:
Sgt Lori ‘Mike’ Morrison
So many people were involved with the making of this tour and we would like to thank all of them, in particular Col (Ret’d) Peter Sharland who had fought tirelessly for the last three years to get
the first ever CS Ladies cricket tour off the ground and Maj Ros Brown (team manager and tour OIC) who spent many hours organising the bulk of the tour. Our sponsors QinetiQ, Vauxhall and the three Sports Lotteries, unit PRI funds as well as the Berlin Infantry Brigade Memorial Trust and SSVC who gave us a grant, without whom these tours won’t be possible.
Personally I would like to thank my chain of command at RCDM and my corps for their continuous support and financial contribution.
Although this has been my first season playing cricket, I have managed to develop and improve my cricketing skills as a player, bowler and wicket keeper. During this time we got to represent the MOD, our country and promote women’s sport.
