At the Branch Dinner this year we were joined by the Musicians Branch who we made very welcome; we even supplied them with a children’s table (where most of the noise came from). Also, at the dinner Rod Evans was presented with a print and a day out at Buckingham Palace to thank him for his years as Branch Secretary, doing a job that was harder then than it is now with no emails or social media to fall back on. He even had to type out the E and C notes and post them to Home Headquarters. Thank goodness for technology.
Hovis Brown and his son paraded the Grey Beret at the Armed Forces Day National Event in Falmouth in June. In November, Nicholas Orr and Brian Cullen represented the Regiment at Remembrance Parades in York and the Arboretum respectively. The other news was that Jock Allan was awarded his Association Gold membership and is to be presented it at the Branch Dinner in April 2024 when we hope there will be a good turn out and when we will be joined, once again, by the Musicians Branch.
NORTH WEST OF ENGLAND AND WALES BRANCH
Our first event of the year was the Annual AGM at Ye Auld Kings Head, Chester which several members and wives attended. The usual topics were discussed by the members (committee members and diary dates etc.) and after the meeting a buffet was supplied by the Kings Head.
The next get together was lunch at the Oak Tree Upton Grange Chester on Thursday 13 April for the 79th anniversary of Nunshigum. This was a great success which 22 members and wives attended.
In May a few of us descended on London for the Cavalry Memorial Parade and the get together at the Royal Hospital Chelsea, and it was good to catch up with so many characters from the regiment.
We then had our annual BBQ which, this year, was kindly hosted by Heather and Ken Prydderch at their home in Mostyn. Members and their wives enjoyed a (mostly)

sunny afternoon and a lovely BBQ spread. We would like to thank Heather and Ken for all they did to make the day so enjoyable.
On Saturday 11 November we all met up at the Oak Tree pub and grill for our annual reunion and a great night was had by all. The next day we went to Chester Cathedral for the Service of Remembrance. After the service we were invited back to Fox Barracks by the Cheshire Yeomanry who laid on a wonderful spread for lunch. and made us very welcome. There was one surprise when we met a serving soldier from the regiment who was attached to the Cheshire Yeomanry.
We are looking forward to the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Nunshigum on 13 April 2024, our first big event of the year. This is being held at The Village Inn Hotel, St Davids, Hawarden, just outside Chester.
