EAGLE AND CARBINE 107 INGOBAMAKHOSI CARBINEERS
2023 was both challenging and exhilarating for the Ingobamakhosi Carbineers Regiment.
We had a name change from Natal carbineers to Ingobamakhosi Carbineers the first name change in 168 years. Done in keeping with the transformation of the South African National Defence Force the Regiment opted for the new name of Ingobamakhosi, the name coming from the Royal Zulu Regiment who fought against the Natal Carbineers in the Battle of Isandlwana in 1879. Our new Regimental Motto – Izinqalabutho, which roughly translated means “We set the trend”.
It has been a continuous rotation of deployments, training and shooting exercises and civic duties under the enthusiastic and disciplined command of the Officer Commanding, Lt Col Sabenelo Linda. Lt Col Linda has had a very accomplished military career and is often selected to serve as Battalion Commander on the ongoing operations.
From December 2022 the Regiment was deployed on Operation Propser up to March 2023 and again in July 2023 to September 2023, in support of protection of the infrastructure of the country and border line control on Operation Corona on the Lesotho, Mozambique and Northern Cape borders, on six month rotations.. The Regiment is also responsible for the guard rotation at Denel and on various power stations around the country. The Regiment was also selected to deploy to the Democratic Republic of Congo on Operation Mistral, these members will be returning in December 2023 after nearly two years away from home.
Shooting has always played a big part of the Regimental history and the members still excel in this aspect. Some of
the competitions attended by the Regiment this year were the South African Combat Rifle Championship where the second in Command, Maj E.J. Pascoe and Cpl R.E. Fortmann were selected for the South African Veterans A Team, Cpl M.T. Nhlapo was selected for the South African C Team and our only lady, Pte T.S.
