Meanwhile the Det Comd and Cpl Haining have ably supported BGHQ with deployments to Germany and on CAST, where their IM skills were greatly appreciated. Build up to Ex WS and a readiness verification exercise saw the midnight oil being burned by both Cpl Boila and LCpl Keicher who revamped every Op Wallet in the Regiment while Pte Fairbrass ordered a plethora of ID Discs to replace the ones no doubt lying in kitchen drawers all over Scotland.
Despite the busy pace of life in Scotland, there have also been opportunities to take part in other forms of training. Sgt Johnson completed both the Regt Accountant and Imprest Operators courses, while Cpl Thapa stepped up to also completed the Regt Accountant course and assumed the role. Cpl Birss once again assisted with the annual ABF Dinner night raising funds for this very worthy cause. LCpl Keicher, with a team of 2 others, placed 1st in the Scottish BAWF championships and a very credible 3rd in the Army Championships, made all the more commendable as the team very rarely had the opportunity to train together. (Insert LCpl Keicher picture). Finally, Pte Gurung attended the AA PTI course and passed with a distinction (insert Pte Gurung picture). Congratulations to them all.
Regardless of the frantic pace of life over the year there have also been many great opportunities for some team bonding. The RAO arranged for the Det to go horse riding in March, something many had never done before, Pte Fairbrass fully embraced the idea by purchasing a silk cowboy shirt for the occasion (insert Pte Fairbrass picture). April saw the Det head to the Links Market, the biggest travelling street fair in Europe followed by a meal (insert The Duchess and Links Market pictures here.). Before the end of summer truly arrived, the RAO hosted a BBQ for all the Det, their families and of course their dogs.
Finally at the end of October those supporting Ex WESSEX STORM deployed to SPTA to enjoy being a “soldier first” whether with their Sqns or with BGHQ.
Morale in the Detachment remains high with personnel continuing to deliver above and beyond the required standards and all with a smile on their faces. We now look forward to the challenges of VJTF(L) in 2024 with a deployment in Poland first on the FoE.
