58 EAGLE AND CARBINE
WARRANT OFFICERS’ AND SERGEANTS’ MESS
We move into 2023, and this was going to be an eventful year in the WOs’ & Sgts’ Mess with WO1 (RSM) Brown at the helm, and WO2 Hallam taking over WO2 Taylor as PMC.
The majority of the regiment is now deployed on Op Newcombe in Mali and the unsung heroes in the Rear Operations Group (ROG) are left with the task of running the regiment. The pace of life doesn’t slow down for the ROG, it only seems to get more hectic with A sqn deployed to Oman for Ex Dessert Khanjar providing OPFOR for 2 Royal Anglian and B Sqn conducting their build up training and preparing for Ex Pilgrims Progress in April.
That said, it didn’t stop Sgt McGuire from going on a three day sea fishing trip in Muscat, Oman. Once they were clear of the sprawling suburbs of muscat and into the clear blue waters of the Strait of Hormuz, they tried their luck at catching Tuna. After many failed attempts, Sgt McGuire managed to reel in two Parrot fish and many yellow-fin Tuna.
Easter leave is finally here and with the regimental deployment to Mali coming to end, we will see the regiment come back to life after a challenging period for the rear operations group.
Our cocktail party this May was a low key event due to the majority of the regiment being on post tour leave, but that didn’t dampen the spirits. We entertained the mess with cocktails and a DJ which was a big hit with the partners.
July brought more honours as members of the mess were invited to attend the Holyrood Palace Garden Party for their significant contributions to the regiment. A well-earned Summer leave is nearly upon us after an hectic first half of the year, but not before the annual Association Golf Competition. An event of which we hold every year with past and present members of the regiment. The bandits were out in force this year and as always WO2 Hallam picked up the most golf trophy.
We rolled into August, and with WO1 Brown’s tenure as RSM coming to an end, it was WO1 Lang next in line to take the reins. We sadly said our goodbyes to WO1 Brown after a long and successful career, we wish him and his family all the best for the future.
The Robertson Dinner Night was a refreshing change to the calendar. As most of you are fully aware, William (Wully) Robertson is a prominent figure within Regimental history. He remains the only person to have held every rank in the British Army from trooper to field marshal. Therefore, a good man to name the new crew
