night. A highlight for many people was the chance to see Toploader in action. For those of us who were fans in our youth, it was a real privilege to hear some masters at work. Bouncing along to ‘Dancing in the Moonlight’ will remain in the memory for a long time. Braving the sweltering heat, the disco kept people dancing into the small hours.
Events like the Purple Ball cannot happen without the hard-work, vision and dedication of a number of people, and it is not possible to name everyone here. The committee, largely formed of ACSC students, was central to this effort. Particular praise is due to Matt Moore who led the committee, supported by
a relatively small cast. Signi cant praise is also due to students Sarah Clifford, Kay Hallsworth, Claire
Mackian, Paul Hammett, Andy Brown, Andy Foy, John Hetherington and Ben Stait, who all worked tirelessly and energetically to ensure that the evening was a great success. Thanks are also due to ACSC Directing Staff Mike Dixon and Paul Ottewell for their guidance and vital liaison. Beyond ACSC, many thanks are due to Lieutenant Commander Harry Harrison (DCDC) for bringing a wealth of previous experience, and for linking the committee to the wider Shrivenham Station. ESS staff, led by John Glusing and head-chef Pete Smith, and Serco staff led by Ian Walker were fantastic throughout. Finally, both the JSCSC and Station Of cers’ Messes provided critical nancial contributions, without which the event simply could not have happened.
