This is often a busy time for everybody. Parents are trying to squeeze Christmas shopping in around work; kids are busy with concerts and plays, and everybody wants the house ready for guests to come and stay. The last thing that anybody wants is a bad back or a sore neck to ruin the fun or get in the way of being ready for the holidays.
If you are aware that you have aches or stiffness, think about addressing it before the holiday period. This could involve simple stretching exercises if you don’t have time to get to the gym:
• Try laying on your back and drawing your
knees up to your tummy to stretch your lower
back if you’ve done heavy lifting.
• Gentle shoulder rolls and some deep breaths
to relax your upper back and neck muscles whilst writing greetings cards or emails; -If you are kneeling wrapping presents on the floor try moving onto all fours and doing cat/ cow or child’s pose occasionally.
• Take a walk to collect materials for decorations rather than rushing round the shops.
No one wants a miserable person at the Christmas lunch table, or to be unable to join in
the fun and games or to not be able to get down to the presents under the tree. If you have a back or neck problem that may stop you enjoying your Christmas festivities, we can offer you help and advice.
Remembrance Sunday
As we were preparing to send this issue of Oundle Life to press, we heard about ‘Boris’ who had been performing at Oundle’s Remembrance Sunday Parade.
He is a 17 year old French Percheron, and has been known as ‘Police Horse Putney’ while serving in the Met Police for the last 12 years. A legend by all accounts from those who served as his partner over the years.
He retired this summer and now lives locally with Alison Gardner, who originally bred him and bottle fed him when his mother died shortly after his birth. Alison is pictured here riding Boris at the parade.
Thanks to Paul Coles for this beautiful photo.
