‘The Technical Update’
By Sgt Gharti Magar, LBdr Tate and LBdr Cook
The time has come again for a G4 update from the QM(T) Department. The last 24 months have gone by in the blink of an eye. The department has been extremely busy providing logistic support to the Regiment and enabling sub-units to deploy promptly and effec- tively often within tight time constraints.
During this period, Department Person- nel have managed to deploy and sup- port on various Operations and Exercises. This includes Op ESCALIN, Op GREEN- GAUGE, Op BRIDGE, Op TEMPERER, Op CABRIT, Ex SUNDERLAND DAGGER and Ex SUNDERLAND BAYONET to mention a few.
Personal and professional development have always been a priority, and the QM(T) Dept have been able to facilitate an Artillery Logistic Assistant course which is an essential part of the development of the future logistician in the Gunners. The course was held in Alanbrooke Barracks to internal and external students from all RA units. The course was planned and deliv- ered by LBdr Tate, and the course presi-

dent was Capt Barnes RA QM(T). All stu- dents were competent and absorbed the required knowledge and skills to perform within their role.
Outside of work, the department managed to conduct team cohesion and team build- ing activities. These were organised and executed by the more junior members of the department. Among these was a trip to the York motorsport village, where the Dept competed against each other in a go-karting event: as expected the compe- tition was furious with the overall winner being the RQ (T) WO2 Murray. The event was then complimented by an evening meal in Panda Mami in York.
Achieving compliance with Defence’s assurance regime remains a top prior- ity. External assurance is an integral part of such audits: these are to ensure the Regiment is a safe place to work, that our equipment is well maintained, and that we
are conforming to policies and procedures within the Regiment, reassuring and sup- porting the Commanding Officer’s equip- ment care directive.
There have been operational activities as well: in October 2021 LBdr Cook deployed on Op ESCALIN. She assisted in the deliv- ery of the contingency operation for an interruption of the national fuel supply, supporting the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy. The task saw her deployed on a fuel tanker to deliver over 40,000L of fuel to different companies in London when supplies were extremely low. Simultaneously, SSgt Ryan (RFM) now WO2 (MTWO) supported the Military Aid to Civil Authorities (MACA) task mainly focusing on C and C+E licence acquisition training with the purpose of improving the national shortage of HGV drivers.
The New Year of 2022 has seen the QM(T) Dept deploy to Garelochhead to provide
