CUOTC Recruiting 2014/15
CUOTC
Cambridge UOTC has around 250 members spread across 3 Companies. This academic year, we have successfully recruited 134 members, an increase of 32%. While previously we have concentrated on recruiting students from the University of Cambridge, Anglia Ruskin University and the University of
East Anglia, in 2014 we reached out to new educational institutions. The CUOTC now has an even more diverse membership, bringing in students from Bedford and Essex.
The core recruiting team, comprised of OCdts, members of permanent staff and headed by Capt Allen and SSgt Webber, attended all of their university freshers’ fairs. The CUOTC ag soaring high above the sea of students
was certainly an impressive sight,
alongside our clearly visible tent,
setting us apart from the rest of the organisations in attendance. While
interacting with students there,
and walking around in our (brand
new!) CUOTC stash, our mission
was to effectively communicate and describe the countless, incredible opportunities accessible to them.
The successful freshers’ fairs brought in all those interested to our open evenings, where they could nd out more about our organisation
and meet some of the students and staff they would be interacting with in the future. This included an address by the Commanding Of cer, Lt Col Mark Nicholas, as well as presentations by some of our students, namely SUO Lancashire and JUO Warner. various age groups, and a
wide range of backgrounds. Some are interested in personal development, whether improving their tness, con dence or leadership skills. For others, it provides access to adventure training in the UK and abroad,
including ski trips, sailing, diving, kayaking, mountaineering, and mountain biking, along with the chance to gain instructor quali cations in adventure training activities. CUOTC stands out above other opportunities available from university societies in its unique place within the
