larger structure of the British Army. Generally, students outline how joining the CUOTC can enhance their CV. For example,
prospective members are surprised to learn that all Of cer Cadets in the OTC can gain a Level 5 Award in Management
and Leadership through the
Chartered Management Institute.
The impressive leadership
development program is set to
the same standards as that of the
Royal Military Academy Sandhurst,
an exciting prospect for future
employers. In addition, while our
aim as a society is not to recruit for the British Army, we encourage those with the interest, ability and aptitude to consider a career with the Regular Army or as a Reservist in the future.
In January 2015, we offered another chance for students to join, hosting ‘Bring a Friend’ nights and BBQs, for those who had previously missed out. These new members would later form the STORMBERG platoon that attended a
two-week consolidated course in March, in order to reach the same level of training as their peers. CUOTC has run this popular course for two years consecutively, training OCdts from across the country.
Our considerable recruiting efforts this year, while expanding our intake area, have brought in more students to the CUOTC than before and facilitated experiences that would otherwise not have been available to them. For example, OCdt Croucher (University of Bedfordshire) was
able to pursue novel opportunities and became a vital member to the CUOTC Cambrian Patrol team, 2014. In the coming academic year, we endeavour to further diversify and expand the CUOTC’s intake, while providing further, unique openings to our current and prospective society members.
