CUOTC
and a sense of achievement.
For all the wet and cold during these exercises,
it is surely made up for by the buzz of the annual dinner. A momentous event held at St. John’s College and an incisive look into what army formal dining is about. The cadets tremendously enjoyed the opportunity to doll themselves up and to meet and greet some esteemed guests, as well as enjoying the atmosphere of a high pro le night. Following the formalities, members of the new platoon headed back to the ARC where beverages were consumed at a not insigni cant rate! In all a thoroughly entertaining and enjoyable evening for all, highlighting that the army is not entirely about being wet and cold.
Among the fun and experiences of exercise and formal dining, Stormberg platoon were
also offered the opportunity to focus on what the OTC is about – preparing young individuals for of cer selection. To this end, a leadership development weekend was held at the end of February run by Captain Debono-Evans and Major Elms. The weekend entailed practicing many of the assessments that applicants may encounter at both the AOSB Brie ng, and AOSB Main Board. It provided the cadets with the chance to gain valuable feedback as to where their individual strengths and weaknesses lay.

Among the assessment task were a selection
of aptitude tests, command tasks, tness assessment and even the dreaded planning exercise, culminating in a grilling by the staff (all in the name of preparation). The only thing missing from the weekend was the 8 foot wall. Despite this, Stormberg platoon were able to take away a signi cant amount of information regarding their performance and will hopefully be able to work on any highlighted areas in order to increase their chances for the AOSB selection process should they wish to become army of cers.
Looking forwards, this summer brings with
it the annual camp. Two weeks of military style training and adventure training. Based on the enthusiasm so far shown by the new cadets to get involved and the level of positive feedback, there is no doubt that Stormberg platoon will be well represented in Dartmoor for further character building and educational experiences.
All that remains is to wish Stormberg platoon the very best for upcoming events, and for their exploits next year, and also to thank all the staff at CUOTC for their hard work and dedication without whom these events would not happen. OCdt Adam Clarke,
