OUNDLE YOUNG FARMERS
Oundle Young Farmers Club is the local branch of the National Federation of Young Farmers Clubs, an organisation which
has around 23,000 members in England and Wales. The National Federation
caters for members aged 10-26, and in Northamptonshire we encourage members up to 30 years old to be involved with Young Farmers. Clubs are supported by past members, but the majority of the work and organisation is conducted by the members, allowing us to keep the ideas fresh and relevant to our generation!
You don’t have to be a farmer to be involved in Young Farmers – you just have to be a young person wanting to improve your social life! Our members come from all walks of life – accountants, engineers,
farmers, farriers, land
agents, mechanics and
students to name but a
few.
Oundle Young Farmers
Club has a large catchment
area, so we spread our
meetings between The
Chequered Skipper Ashton,
Thurning Village Hall, and
activity centres in Peterborough and Corby. Pre COVID-19 we held a great variety of weekly meetings, to cater for our members. Our meetings range from social pub meets, Bake Off, First Aid Training, Greyhound Racing, Livestock Judging, and tours of local businesses. We are very relaxed and there is no obligation to attend every week, meaning members can
choose the meetings they attend! During the peak of lockdown we held virtual meetings to ensure our members could still connect with
their friends.
Many of our members
choose to get involved with competitions and events
run by Northamptonshire County, East Midlands Area and the National
Organisation. Members of Oundle Young Farmers
have been part of travel trips to America and
Slovenia, as well as competition and social weekends across the Country! All of these experiences allow you to not only gain further skills for your CV, but also to mix with like- minded people and build friendships.
As with all aspects of life, we are not operating in the same way that we did before. As a youth organisation we are currently allowed to meet in small groups. Traditionally the club has met weekly on Wednesday evenings, but to accommodate the encouraged use of outdoor meetings we will be holding more meetings on a Sunday afternoon.
