SEVEN WELLS
Butchers shop and farm food...
In 2004, Seven Wells Family Butchers was established when they took over the butchers, K. Johnson and Son. Purchasing the shop gave them the opportunity as farmers to sell their produce directly to the customer. Sally Knight tells us more...
What made you choose Oundle? An attractive market town with a great variety
of shops. Oundle and the surrounding rural villages are home to people who want to support independent shops and like the opportunity to buy local produce.
Tell us more... Since the start of COVID-19 in March 2020, we have noticed that our customers are more aware about the importance of food supply and local shops. We thank our loyal customers who have supported us through the last 6 months. Looking ahead, Christmas will be a challenge for us all but we are planning a delivery service this year to ensure that everyone will have be able to have their traditional feast.
How has the High Street changed since you started? We do not get the day to day consistency of footfall in the shop. When we first opened, Thursday – Saturday would be busier, particularly Thursday coinciding with market day.
What is the best thing about your job?
I enjoy meeting people and have got to know many faces in Oundle that I would probably not have had chance to meet.
As well as providing a service, we do have a laugh with many of our customers which is important in the current situation that we all find ourselves in.
Favourite product on sale today? Now Autumn has arrived, it has to be a roast... ‘Herb fed’ chicken, one of our free-range chickens from Yorkshire. Not exactly local but these fresh farm chickens are delivered directly from the farmer and proving very popular with our customers.
