Social Media
In these days of increased use
of technology, in addition to the NVS website and membership system, we revamped the NVS Facebook page and NVS Facebook member’s page. Why not take
a look and keep up to date in between magazines being issued? Some of our DA’s also have a Facebook page too, which is great, just search on National vegetable Society or click on the links in
the website (“about “ - structure section) but please remember some of the NVS members group rules when using Social Media and apply them always.
1. BeKind&Courteous
We’re all in this together to create a welcoming environment. Let’s treat everyone with respect. Healthy debates are natural, but politeness is required. This not only includes respecting other members, but also our hard- working partners who work with the NVS, growing varieties just
for us, sponsor shows and give us free seeds amongst other things. Please think regarding what effect you might be having before you type.
2. No Hate Speech or Bullying
Make sure everyone feels safe. Bullying of any kind isn’t allowed and degrading comments will not be tolerated.
3. No promotions or spam
Give more than you take to this group. Self-promotion, spam and irrelevant links aren’t allowed.
4. Respect everyone’s privacy
Being part of the members group requires mutual trust. Authentic expressive discussions make groups great but may also be sensitive and private. What’s shared in the group, stays in the group.
5. Personal details
Do not give out personal details. If other members get in touch with you and you aren’t sure about the content of the message, please alert the NVS team by sending
a private message to the page. Private message members to provide contact details etc. should you so wish, but keep them off the main Facebook page.

Winter Zoom programme success
We have received some great interest and feedback throughout the winter months for the programme of varied Zoom talks that were available for our members. We would like to thank all of our excellent speakers who covered a wide range of topics including growing parsnips, carrots, potatoes and dahlias, general veg growing including an appreciation of Growing and showing in Ireland, Judging plus growing using Coir by Ecothrive, an insight into Marshall’s seeds. With the exception of the initial talk on parsnips, we did record them all and have been working to share via our NVS web site soon.
For all the volunteers who gave the talks, thank you so much, we really appreciate
the work you put into your presentations and for answering a great range of questions afterwards. To all members who attended the talks, thank you for your enthusiasm and
we hope you enjoyed your evenings and gained some valuable and interesting and entertaining information, for example, who would have known about Ian Sutherland’s exceptional chocolate confectionary skills as well as his Dahlia growing! Thanks also to Ian stocks for establishing the whole programme and to our Zoom host, Sandra Hall, who set up to comms and managed each session.
We have noted that some of you were perhaps unable to get the link to work or had a different issue, so we will look to create a help tutorial which might help next time and are happy to set up any test sessions to help sort out your problems.
Talking of next time, why not help us plan for the next Zoom programme? If there are any topics you would like to see covered, or if you would like to offer your services to give a zoom talk, please let any member of your DA, Branch or the Trustees know.
