Archery whilst on camp
As a part of being in the ACF, the Battalion provides the opportunity to challenge cadets with the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme, encouraging them to gain Bronze, Silver and Gold DofE awards. As part of each award the cadets receive training before completing a self-reliant expedition under the close supervision of the adult volunteers. This year the cadets went to the Linn of Quoich near Braemar, where they spent 2 days and one night navigating the highways and byways of a scenic highland glen covering 18km.
Cadets also took part in a Battalion Military Skills Competition where 9 teams competed at 9 stands situated across the Barry Buddon peninsular to fight it out to be the best team in the Battalion.
But it wasn’t all work and no play, The cadets visited Edinburgh Castle soaking up the history and atmosphere of easily the most recognisable castle in Scotland with a memorable visit to the Regimental Museum.
Posing to promote the Cadets.
Evenings were also packed full of sports fun including athletics, basketball and football, with an inflatable obstacle course and archery tag proving popular pastimes. There was also an activities tent with rowing machines, and RPM spin bikes where the cadets and adult volunteers were challenged by the Commandant, Colonel Dunn, to complete 2022 miles for charity within the 2-week camp. Our RAC contingent of professional staff completed the highest distances with our RQ, Kev Costello ex 4RTR, and Maj (Retd) Moose Cameron SCOTS DG being the top 2. Clearly they had time on their hands.
With all of the activities behind us and unforgettable memories made, the Battalion parents and guardians were invited to the final muster parade where the fruits of the cadet’s labour were rewarded with starboard passes and promotions, and a BBQ for all to enjoy.
