Item 4 - Chairman’s Annual Report
7. Once again the Association has enjoyed a busy year. In addition to considering the many applications submitted, we have also taken forward a significant review of our policies and procedures in order to comply with the requirements and recommendations of the Charity Commission.
8. In order to progress this work we have created several sub- committees namely:
The Executive Committee – to manage the strategic development of the Association
The Governance Committee – to draft, finalise and review all policies & procedures
The Media & Communications Committee – to develop our use of the internet, Gazette and other media opportunities and you will hear more of their activities in the next item on the Agenda.
Constitution
9. As part of this review we are also looking to amend our constitution. It was last revised in 2003 and you may remember that this matter was raised at the AGM 2 years ago but was not included in the review that was carried out in 2012. The main points of revision are:
Renaming of the Constitution as the Governing Document. Renaming of the Central Committee as the Board of Trustees.
The addition of a serving soldier to the nominated members. Removal of all age limitations throughout the document.
A reduction in the time elapsed for failed contacts – for both annual and life members.
As well as other minor amendments to the wording of the document.
10. The proposed revision will appear in its entirety in the Autumn edition of the Gazette. All members are asked to review the proposal and forward any suggested amendments to the Secretary no later than the 31st of January next year. It will then be put forward for ratification at next year’s AGM – which may have an earlier start time because of this.
