THE GAZETTE QARANC 43
to win massive points for the team. As the saying goes, success is where preparation and opportunity meet and winning is not everything, but wanting to win is!
The Manifestation of team work which is one of the objectives of the competition was at its peak. Our fighting spirit remained relentless. It didn’t take long and the hard work started paying off again. We went on to win gold in women’s 1500m, gold in women’s 5000m and gold in men’s 400m flat.
The moment for the relays dawned and everyone in the arena adopted a standing ovation to witness what is believed to be the most captivating part of the championships. There always seems to be drama when it comes to the relays. This year, we experienced a whole spectrum of emotions. The women’s team coming fourth in the 4x400m relay was heartbreaking but a great package of motivation for the men’s team to push even harder into the medals zone. Again, when it mattered most, DHE stood to be counted. Out of nowhere DHE snatched a Silver medal unexpectedly as its sixth medal of the day.
Out of the thirteen teams that participated in the AMS Athletics this year, we are proud that DHE was ranked 7th. We attribute the success of the team to our brave athletes, the chain of command, the Unit PTIs and 14 Royal Artillery Regiment for their support in diverse ways before and
during the event.
With the performance displayed
this year, we are optimistic that in the forthcoming years, we stand a greater chance of defending our six medals and could forge ahead to contest for those we missed out on.
It is our aim to be a formidable force
in the AMS championships and we are confident that the generation of students to come will be more than proud to be the ambassadors of DHE in this regard.
