                                Sir Cameron Moffat
Lieutenant General Sir Cameron Moffat, KBE, FRCS passed away on 29 June 2014 aged 84. Sadly his wife Lady Audrey Acquroff Moffat died earlier in the month on 21 June 2014.
An accomplished General Surgeon Sir Cameron’s talent was recognised very early in his career. Having relinquished his role as a surgeon he was appointed Commanding Officer at the British Military Hospital Rinteln and subsequently held other management roles out of his clinical speciality. In 1981 Sir Cameron was promoted to Brigadier, in 1983 he was promoted to Major General and became Director General Army Medical Service, in January 1985 he became Surgeon General in the rank of Lieutenant General.
After a long and distinguished military career as an Officer in the Royal Army Medical Corps, during his retirement Sir Cameron continued to utilise and share his knowledge and skills and served as the Chief Medical Officer for the British Red Cross.
In April 1985 Sir Cameron was made Commander of the Order of St John, in June 1991, he was awarded an honorary Doctor of Science from the University of Glasgow and in 1994 he was awarded the Queen’s Badge of Honour – this is the highest honour awarded for services to the British Red Cross.
It is said that behind every great man is a great woman and that was very true. Lady Moffat from Edinburgh was the perfect partner for Sir Cameron from Glasgow and the rivalry between the two cities was the cause of much friendly banter. Both Sir Cameron and Lady Moffat loved entertaining and to ensure no guest was ever served the same menu twice a book was keep detailing the date, the guest list and the menu served. The book, (which became the books) covered many years of lunch and dinner parties.
It is proper that, after over 60 years of marriage, Sir Cameron and Lady Audrey are together. For me it would be very difficult to imagine one without the other.

She was a dedicated army and civilian nurse who went on to specialise in ENT and worked her way up to sister grade at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital in Shropshire, before her retirement from nursing.
She was a devoted wife to Roger Sharp and loving mother to Claire & Anthony and will be hugely missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
