Drinking beer to support good causes? Thrapston Beer Festival Committee look to the future and when the next festival will be...
Two years ago, at the Thrapston Sports Association Committee it was suggested we should hold a beer festival on August Bank Holiday weekend for the local community – a few of the committee members agreed and Thrapston Beer Festival was born.
We only had a few months to organise the 2018 event and had no idea who would attend and if it would be a success. It was, despite torrential rain on the Sunday which was supposed to be ‘family fun day’. It’s
fair to say it was a very wet family fun day but ‘fun’ was had by all who attended. As soon as the event was over, we decided to get ahead of the game and start organising the 2019 event to be bigger and better. One thing’s for sure if anyone remembers the 2019 August Bank Holiday weekend it was drier and hotter than ever!!
Over the course of the weekend we had three live bands, bouncy castles, stalls, mountain bike show, circus skills workshop, football match, cricket match and copious amounts of food and drink with a great atmosphere. We even had Radio Northampton attend as part of their Saturday morning ‘Treasure Quest’. None of this would have been possible without the support of Thrapston Town Council and many local businesses who provided equipment and sponsorship for activities
and barrels of beer, cider and gin! It was also massively supported by people from the town and surrounding towns and villages.
The profit from the weekend goes to investing into the next year’s event and supporting local sports clubs, facilities and community projects and charities. Last year we donated £7,500 across the following: St. James’ Church Hall Fund, the Mayor’s Charity MIND, AMMF Cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct) Cancer Charity, Thrapston Sports facilities and Thrapston Football and Cricket Clubs.
The plans for 2020 are underway but with the current situation who knows whether we will be able to put on an event this year or if people will be in a position to attend.
Whether it’s this year or another one
you can be sure we will be bringing the Thrapston Beer Festival back to town and helping you have a great August Bank Holiday weekend whilst supporting good causes close to the heart of the community.
