Knowledge is power, and shared knowledge grants even more power. The experience and knowledge presented by platoon staff during our post-attack briefs con- sistently contained the most potent, instructive, and constructive details critical to the success of future attacks. These details helped to gener- ate a more in-depth understand-
our best to regain body heat although the over- whelming anticipation for the upcoming attack made it difficult to get rest. 0315hrs was the time we would be joined by the remaining members of the platoon. I couldn’t wait to initiate one final attack to demonstrate to our CSgt and Platoon Commander that we have obtained the stand- ard, and that their hard work and dedication to
ing of how our actions can both positively and negatively affect an attack. It was great to see that, as a platoon, we continued to pro- gress forward and capitalise on a previous attack’s feedback, rarely making the same mistake twice.

the development of the platoon had come to fruition.
The deliberate attack was executed to perfection. All of the sections exe- cuted their assignments on time and in quick and deliberate succession. This included the individual OCdts
On the final night of exercise my section was tasked with conducting the reconnaissance patrol necessary to obtain confirmation of enemy positions, terrain association, route planning, and relaying any critical information required to be transmitted to the Platoon Commander. This was all in order to aid in developing the most efficient and effecting attack. We were keen that our deliberate attack the following morning would be our best one to date.
Having stepped off at 2130hrs, we covered 6km to our known enemy objective. This night was by far one of the most beautiful nights of the exercise with the constellations in full view and on display; it was hard to resist having a glimpse of the night sky through our shared night vision goggle. We arrived at the enemy objective around 2330hrs, established our hasty harbour, assigned a security element, and then set off to observe the enemy positions on the objective.
As 0200hrs arrived, we pushed into the wood- block, crawled into our bivvy bags, and tried

within their sections to those assigned leader- ship roles, the development of the plan, the tim- ing of the engagements amongst sections, and the overall understanding of the enemy location, possible reinforcements, areas for future cover and concealment, and natural features that could be implemented to increase our lethally; all worked in agreement to finish our Junior Term on the highest of notes.
My experiences on Montgomery’s Mark, and all of the training and knowledge that has been offered to me since my arrival, only re-enforces my reasons to be here at Sandhurst. I travelled 5700kms from home to build a better and more well-rounded perspective of the world. The Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst has exceeded my expectations, and I’m excited to see what challenges are ahead. I’ll finish with a personal challenge that was given to me by a British Army Lieutenant Colonel prior to my application for selection to attend Sandhurst; “You only get the opportunities you put your hand up for”, and I’m glad I chose to accept that challenge.
