3 Midland Road Station opened in 1866 with lines running to Kettering and Cambridge. The Cambridge end
of the route has now been incorporated into the guided bus route, following the track bed. The station yard buildings are shown
in December 1998 before an arson attack finally saw the end of the site, which now gives its name to The Sidings estate. On the wooded hill behind the low white building, the stone-crusher from the days of limestone extraction on the site can just be seen.

Eric Franklin: the answers
1 This view is of the rear of Smith & Graces’ office with Midland Road just visible through the door in
November 2000, after the fire which swept through the premises. It is now part of the Foundry Walk estate.
4 The building being demolished stood on Huntingdon Road,
opposite the now entrance to Orchard Way estate. The Limes was a large, imposing house which, just before demolition was run as the Garden House Rest Home. It is shown in May 1999 under demolition and is now the site of a small close of five properties called The Limes.
2 The picture below shows the old Boarding School at the top end of Market Road under demolition
in October 1998. This is now part of the Hermitage House site and Kingfisher Road.
5 To the right is the old wooden Scout Hut on Winding Way photographed in November 2000. The path beside is still there and leads to Faraday Court. Highfield Road is visible in the distance.
