THRAPSTON
Commemorating D-Day
Thrapston residents met in the Peace
Park on Thursday evening, 6th June to commemorate the 80th anniversary of
the D-Day landings and to pay tribute to all those involved. As people gathered, Thrapston Town Band played a selection of familiar Remembrance Day tunes.
The tribute was led by Chair of Thrapston and District branch of the Royal British Legion, Matthew Ellmer and the beacon was lit at exactly 9.15pm by Hermitage House resident, Veteran James C Gardner OBE who was just nineteen years old when he landed on the Normandy beach of Lion–sur–mer.
Earlier in the day wreaths had been laid at the War Memorial in Oundle Road which has been decorated for the occasion with knitted poppies.
