When Alison Fitzhugh stopped for lunch at BrewBabu, little did she know that only an hour later, after falling in love with it, she would buy the beautiful coffee shop in the very heart of Oundle.
Alison had wanted a coffee shop for about 20 years, but being a single mum she couldn’t afford to give up her job. In May 2017, her dream became a reality.
What made you choose Oundle? I have always loved Oundle as a visitor, either connected to the school through my boys or visiting the markets.
Favourite treat on sale today? Cake of the week (although usually lasts a day) at the moment it is a Caramel Latte Cake.
What is the best thing about your job? The laughter and chats with my team and customers. How have you seen the High Street change?
I feel that most of the little independent shops have survived so far due to the great support from Oundle and the surrounding areas.

You have £10 to give to charity, who do you choose? Macmillian Nurses.
What’s the best thing about being in Oundle? The community spirit and the beauty of the old buildings.
Most challenging moment? First starting
at BrewBabu with no previous experience, especially learning how to make all the different milks for the various coffees. I didn’t realise how much skill was required, but I was carried by a
